I’m Shay Pema, and I’m so excited to be your Director for UNODA. This upcoming fall conference will mark the beginning of my 4th year in Model United Nations. MUN has served as a focal point of learning for me over the past years where I’ve been able to discover a love for international affairs while also gaining vital life skills such as public speaking and researching. Along with this, I’ve been able to create lifetime memories and experiences with some of my closest friends through events such as attending Nationals in New York or grinding research late at night before conferences. All of these experiences at MUN have allowed me to grow and become well-rounded as a person. In my free time, you can find me playing basketball, video games, or eating some of my favorite foods. In school, I’m a part of our basketball program and am also involved in various clubs on campus such as Key Club and Maza Indian Club. Along with clubs, I’m going to be serving my third year as a part of ASB and am excited to see the spirit and leadership that is brought for the 2023-2024 school year. Throughout my MUN career, I’ve researched heavily on disarmament and security committees with topics such as non-state actors in warfare and cybersecurity. I chose this topic looking forward to strong debates and discussions regarding security and disarmament of weapons of mass destruction. I wish you all good luck and look forward to seeing you on the committee.
